History Diversified Emergency Services (DES) was founded in 1999 to provide emergency department administrative and staffing services to St. Elizabeth hospital. Today we serve St. Mary hospital and St. Joseph hospital as well as St. Elizabeth.

Leadership Profiles Scott Betzelos With over 9 years of management experience, Dr. Betzelos is the founder of DES and the cornerstone of DES’s values and leadership, successfully managing the company’s growth and development for the past 6 years. In addition to being the CEO of DES, Dr. Betzelos serves as the Chairman of St. Mary and Elizabeth. He is also Chairman of the Board of EMPAC RRG, bringing stability to the liability rates for the organization. Dr. Betzelos received his Medical Degree from UHS/The Chicago Medical School in 1989 and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Orlando Regional Medical Center in 1992 as Chief Resident. He was the former Assistant EMS medical Director in the Northwest suburbs and an Assistant Regional Medical Director for a large contract management group in the mid 1990's. He has also received a Masters degree in Forensic Examination.   Kevin Whatley After joining DES in 2001, Dr. Whatley became the Chairman of St. Joseph’s Department of Emergency Medicine, leading the department to award winning patient satisfaction, improved efficiency, and enhanced financials. Dr. Whatley received his medical degree with honors at the University of Texas, and completed his residency training in emergency medicine at Emory University, where he also served as Chief Resident.   Adam Black
